Giving children access to literature, such as Tiger Rising and other quality literature, is extremely important for their academic success. Educators needs to help students develop a love and passion for reading. Not only is reading literature important in developing cognitive skills to be able to succeed in a school or work setting, but it is also valuable for other reasons as well. It provides opportunities for students to respond to literature, relate to characters in the literature, and build an appreciation for their own cultural heritage as well as those for others. This also helps develop emotional intelligence and intellectual growth through themes analyzed and discussed during book clubs.
