The intention of this project is to provide my students with the supplies they will need to work in small group stations to foster learning previously taught explicitly by myself. In my experience, I find that students learn best when they are given the opportunity to practice their learning in an engaging and creative way that includes the support of their peers.
The requested materials will allow me to create specific stations that directly link to what my students need to learn. Students will use these stations over and over to practice and review their learning. With the materials, students will use a hands-on approach to continue to enhance their skills by creating, sorting, and literally building their learning. These strategies are so important when engaging little learners! I will use the colorful printer paper, card stock, and laminating sheets to create hands-on learning stations that will allow students to review skills like sequencing stories, addition using manipulatives, and rules of grammar. Students will use the pocket charts for sorting activities and to display their learning. They will also help in assigning students to specific stations. Additionally, students will use the coloring items, construction paper, scissors, and glue to create small projects that display their learning.
Additionally, the materials will enable me to find bright and creative ways to display student work throughout our classroom and encourage a sense of pride in all students as they share their best work. Everyone’s self-esteem increases when someone acknowledges his or her work, and this is very true for second graders as well. They love to see that I, and their peers, are proud of what they have done. Students are self-motivated to produce their best and accomplish more and more.
