Writing is the thrust of my ELA curriculum. At the sixth-grade level, it requires focus, patience, and perseverance. Nonetheless, the physical dimensions of my room and the sheer size of some of my classes (which sometimes have exceeded 30+), make it difficult for students to concentrate. Privacy shields cut down on distractions and alleviate frustration. These simple pieces of cardboard can be used as a tool to help bolster writing skills (a major component of state assessment) and improve classroom discipline. Students learn best through structure and order, and privacy shields would go a long way in improving the learning environment in my classroom.
