While most of my students are seniors, many of my students read and write at an elementary or middle school level. Due to the various levels of learners in the same classroom, scaffolding primary and secondary sources are crucial to their success. Another effective strategy for students to understand a text, and to aid the teacher in knowing whether not a student understand the text is annotation. You just can't beat annotating a text on good old fashioned paper. Unfortunately, this past year due to budgetary reasons, we have run out of basic supplies like paper and pencils multiple times throughout the year. I have supplemented by purchasing my own paper and pencils for my classroom, but unfortunately I do have to limit what I can offer to my students. Since our students are older and many are socioeconomically disadvantaged, having students provide their own basic supplies is just not a viable option. I want to make sure that I have the basic supplies of paper and pencils available to my students next year.
