There are many wonderful apps/programs that the classroom teachers in our district use with their students (Starfall, ABCya, Moby Max, Class DoJo, etc.) In our Title I room, we have an old set of Kindles that are no longer usable. They are glitchy, take too long to load, and aren't compatible with newer programs the students are using.
We would love to have a classroom set of Chromebooks for our students to use as instructional tools in our room. In our classroom, we serve 10 students (in two groups) at a time. However, with a bit of pre-planning, my assistant and I can often organize our lesson plans in order to share materials, making it possible to only have five devices on hand and still receive the benefits of having this technology in our classroom!
In our district, we use a program called Renaissance Learning (RL) with STAR reading and math assessment and AR comprehension tracking. With only one student desktop, we have to prearrange with the classroom teacher to have the students bring a Chromebook to use if we need them for instruction in our room. This is not always possible if the devices are needed in other rooms or by other students.
Chromebooks in our room would help our staff support what the classroom teachers are doing. They would give our students opportunities for exploring guided research topics and serving as educational tools with our RL program. We could support our struggling students in meeting their classroom AR test goals, building their confidence and bridging the gap they currently have with their peers. It would also allow us to use the online supplemental instructional materials within the RL program with our students, as well as Google Classroom in our instruction.
Thank you for your support!
