Because most of my students live in low-income homes, they often do not come to school with adequate supplies. Additionally, I am beginning my first year of teaching and gathering resources to help my students do their best learning in first grade. All of the resources requested in this project will directly affect how my students learn by altering either how information is presented or how the students receive the information. Stocking a functional classroom will give my students opportunities to practice independence and self-control! The Auditory Feedback phone will allow students to practice reading aloud to themselves (or a stuffed "book buddy"). The wobble cushions and chair bands will give students with extra energy the movement they need, while still having the responsibility of staying in their seat without distracting neighbors. Because I utilize anchor/flip chart paper to display graphic organizers and other forms of information for the students to access in the classroom, a flip chart easel will make using the tool easier and more accessible for students and me! My students will be doing a lot of work in our whole-group area (also known as the classroom rug) to get a break from desk work; a set of class clipboards will give students are surface for writing and activity completion during those times. Of course, our classroom also needs basic supplies that are always needing replenishing...pencils, erasers, markers, highlighters, dry-erase markers. With these tools, I feel confident that my students will learning the responsibility and functionality that will make them prepared and excellent 2nd graders!
