During independent reading time each day, students are expected to read books at their reading level. I have an old exercise bike from the Physical Education department that some students choose to use to help them stay focused on their reading. Some of my students are easily distracted or need physical movement to stay on task. Research shows that when students are active while reading, then they will retain more of the material. Therefore, I need more exercise equipment, specifically pedal exercisers, to accommodate my students. Also, some students need reading guide strips to keep their attention on their books. This project will help with focus and motivation. My goal is for all of my students to improve their reading ability while in my class. I want them to stay engaged and have a positive attitude about reading. Because of this project, more of my students will be able to stay active while reading and keep focused. I hope all of my students will become life-long readers!
