Let’s Code The Robots!

Funded Jul 29, 2018

My students were very excited to see the Lego kits and rushed into the room anxious to get started. We began the first week by familiarizing ourselves with all the different pieces and learned their names. We played games where we were given a list of parts and we had a timed amount of time to create something original. The students loved showing off their creativity and reacted very well to the challenge. Then we moved on to building from the Lego library in the Lego education software. The children chose different models and built them. Then we concentrated on learning how to link our robots to an IPad and to program them with different actions.

After watching the Thanksgiving Day parade we made our own Thanksgiving day floats using balloons and arts and crafts materials. It was great seeing how the children were able to combine art with robotics and programming. The kids loved this activity so much they wanted to show it off to everyone. We ran our parade in the lobby of the school during CS educations week.

Next week we are going to build robots with touch sensors so we can learn how sensors work with robots. We will combine our programming knowledge with challenges and connect what we are doing with our Science curriculum.

Thank you to all the donors who have made this all possible for my kids.”

With gratitude,
