Hands-on learning helps students make connections and retain skills that are being covered longer. These items will provide my class with many hands-on learning opportunities and games to help practice skills after the lesson is over. Keeping students engaged and excited about learning is vital for academic growth. My students have shown such resilience in the last two years during the uncertain times of the pandemic. They deserve all the resources available to help them enjoy and learn while at school. As expected, many are struggling with stamina at school. Giving them manipulatives and games allows them movement, real-world connections to concepts, and will help them to realize that learning can be fun. Students will use fraction circles, strips, white boards to help further their understanding of unit fractions, fractions on a number line and comparing fractions. Students will use Power pens and cards to practice math fact fluency. Math equivalency puzzles will allow students more time to reinforce math skills in a fun and engaging way. Many of my students are not on grade level in most math standards. These manipulatives will help them look forward to math lessons and practice. Students will use the reading comprehensions activities and bingo to practice much needed skills for overall reading comprehension. With time out of the classroom last year, this year is a struggle to keep students engaged and active in learning. All of these items requested will make engagement easier, so learning will happen quicker and with less frustration. The shelf will help give our class a way to easily store and retrieve games and manipulatives and help ease transitions between lessons. Games will also help students practice working collaboratively. My students have loss precious time working on social skills. These items will give them opportunity to improve in this area.
