    Funded Aug 9, 2020

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom project! I am so grateful to all of you for your kindness and generosity in making this possible. I can’t wait to start preparing the supply packages for my students and deliver them to their homes. They will be so excited! Again, thank you for helping me purchase these materials to teach my amazing students about diversity and the power of friendship.”

  • Our Room's Dream Maker's Space!

    Funded Dec 7, 2019

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in donating to our Donor's Choose project. STEAM and STEM are one of our favorite subjects to learn about and it was so special to be able to create this project for my students. When the supplies arrived, I surprised them with an "unboxing" and explained what the supplies would be used for. They were ecstatic and eager to set up their new Maker's Space in the classroom. We have now made Friday's into "Fun Friday's" where each afternoon we have time to complete STEAM and STEM projects. Featured in the pictures is a glimpse at our Leprechaun Traps! We are using materials from this Donor's Choose to create awesome traps to celebrate St. Patrick's Day next week.

Again, thank you for sharing your kindness with us and helping my students explore the wonderful world of STEM and STEAM.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thorp

  • Future Tech and STEM Advocates

    Funded Oct 4, 2019

Thank you for your kind donations to our Future Tech and STEM Advocates Donors Choose project. Since we received your donations, we have had so much fun exploring STEM, STEAM, and technology in our classroom. We have created many STEAM projects like designing our houses with the use of different materials and art mediums. Students were able to use their handy dandy new microphone to present their STEAM houses to their peers.

We have also learned how to use our friend Alexa Echo Dot to help us answer questions, put on timers for fun sprint activities, and help us work on our time management with our projects.

We have also finally been able to fully experience technology with our new headphones! We now have been exploring coding apps on our iPads and even are learning how to make short videos with audio.

Thank you for making learning in Rm. 2 an engaging and fun place to be!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thorp

  • Future STEAM and STEM Leaders of the Salinas Valley!

    Funded Oct 10, 2018

Thank you so much for your amazing STEM donations to our Kindergarten classroom at Roosevelt Elementary. My students were so surprised by the materials and could not wait to start exploring the world of STEM. My students had not been exposed to STEM before so we began using the materials one at a time to learn what they were and how to use them to create beautiful and create inventions. As we have progressed since receiving the supplies, I have seen their creativity and ingenuity blossom each day during our STEM rotation stations. Thank you for helping foster their new skills and interests.”

  • Flexible Seating Options For Kinder Centers

    Funded Aug 15, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom for this project. My students were so excited to see their new flexible seating options and tools to help us stay organized during learning centers. They had never seen resources like these before and were so eager to find out their purpose and how they could use it to better their learning environment. It has helped create a beautiful UDL (Universal Design Learning) Environment equitable for all students to participate and thrive in. The flexible seating options have allowed students to explore learning around the classroom from different seat perspectives. It has also allowed them to practice self-monitoring in good decision-making when selecting an appropriate seat option. It has also helped students who need to move by providing them with wiggly cushions and balance balls. Overall, your donations have greatly improved our classroom environment welcoming all students to make good decision-making skills and enjoy their learning environment.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Thorp

Learning Centers is an important part of our learning day when students have the opportunity to work on different skills through fun and engaging activities. This also gives students time to learn how to work in small groups, with partners, and independently. During this time, many students prefer flexible seating options to allow them to step outside of their regular desk and chair and continue learning via alternative seating options. With the ability to select a different seating option, students are practicing decision making that better prepares them to complete their work. Flexible seating provides comfort to students and allows them to work in various locations around the classroom. I have seen this work great in my classroom so far with improved moods and engagements with their tasks at hand. This also works great for children who have a hard time sitting still or in one place for too long. The balance balls will be beneficial to students who need movement to assist their learning. By focusing on the constant movement required to stay seated on the ball the student's focus is enhanced. Likewise, the wobble cushions that can be used on both seats and the floor have the same effect. Essentially, it helps students get their wiggles out while they are engaged. The lap desks allow students to take their work to a different location in the classroom of their choosing. The countdown timer and literacy centers management chart helps students be aware of their learning center schedules and rotations and when they are to switch, thus minimizing disruptions and distractions.
