Over the past few years of teaching I have noticed a change in my students. Sitting still in desks and working used to be appropriate for them. But as the years go by, students are changing. They need movement and they need variety. Being able to incorporate some flexibility into how and where they work in the classroom will help them stay engaged and will keep their interest. Through the use of balance ball chairs, low tables and floor pillows, wobble cushions, stretchy bands for desks, and a great rug for whole-group time, my students will feel more comfortable in their classroom and will be ready to stay engaged all day long!
