My students are eager learners, yet they gravitate to fictional texts in our library. Reading nonfictional texts uses different strategies for comprehension than reading fiction. I want to give my class the opportunity to explore reading informational texts through a magazine that they can read in class and also take home to share with their parents and families. TIME for Kids is an incredible bimonthly news magazine that actually has current news stories about science, history, and politics! Students are also able to read about children their own age who are making a difference in the world. It's truly inspirational. A digital component comes with the classroom subscription so students are able to watch videos that correspond with stories in each issue. It's a fun way for children to build background knowledge on subjects they might not know about! They are also able to listen to the stories read aloud and follow along with the text. This is especially important for struggling readers! Please give my students the gift of learning about the world through this amazing magazine!
