Leveling the Playing Field: Teaching Organization for Behavior & Schoolwork
Funded Apr 13, 2019we appreciate your time and donation to this project for students with special needs. Thank you for your generous and kind donation. The students are using the resources to help organize materials, behavior and time. For example, a student with autism frequently asked for the time while in class. He used the digital watch, and the binder with his schedule and the times, to help him focus on learning and not the time. Students are happy when they are supported with organizational strategies as simple as a binder, and/or folders. Students will continue to benefit from organization, thank you again!”

Special Education Learning Differences And Behavior Support
Funded May 11, 2018I am using the resources to help students understand that it is okay to use adaptive seating or adaptive equipment to help them learn. I am encouraging them to understand how they learn, and understand that it is okay to ask for what they know works for them. For example I had a student I was evaluating and he has difficulty focusing on academic task. When I introduced the therapeutic ball for him to use to sit, he was able to focus on the task at hand as he frequently moved around on the ball. He likes to multi-task.
Students are using the pencil grips when writing to help with positioning of the pencil. This allows them to use a comfortable grip when writing. The use of the timer has allowed the psychologist to use when timing was required during testing and for students who like to be challenged. Some students work better under time pressure, and the use of the timer helps them see how much time has passed by. Students were excited to use the flexible seats. They enjoyed having a choice to move around instead of remaining seated still. The use of the flexible seating allowed students to move around in a safe way.
Students enjoy having the flexibility, and knowing someone understands that they can learn with support or modifications to the environment. The next step is to encourage students to ask for accommodation or modifications to an environment as they see fit that works for them to learn. everyone can learn, we just learn in different ways. Thank you for supporting different learning styles!”
