  • Book Baggies and Mysteries!

    Funded Dec 27, 2023

It is with immense gratitude that I thank you for your generous donation. I have been a teacher for almost 20 years now and it still amazes me that some students do not have access to books at home. Your donation has changed that for my current and future students. Our classroom is now filled with wonderful books that can transport them to magical places both here in school and in their homes.

This year my students have truly taken an interest in mystery books, which this donation comprised of many new titles for them. Using these books both individually and in guided groups have proven to be so valuable. My students are learning to pay more attention to key details. They are using their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Most of all they are having fun! My students and I have you to thank for that.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kennedy

  • Books, Books and More books!

    Funded Jan 23, 2023

My students and I cannot even begin to thank you enough for your generous donations. Reading is such an important part of our day. It helps my students develop vocabulary and build language skills. The books you have so generously donated are also exposing them to different genres.

Through your donations, our classroom had been filled with wonderful books to support their literacy. Each day the students in my class are able to fill their book baggies with new just-right books that interest them. They are no longer stuck with a limited selection.

My favorite thing is watching my students choose these new books. The feeling you get when you see a child reading and their face lights up, is truly an amazing feeling. This is what you have given to my students and I.

Once again, my students and I thank you for your tremendous generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kennedy

  • Social and Emotional Learning

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

I can not even thank you enough for your generous donations. My students and I were so thrilled to open our boxes and see the amazing materials. The items we received has allowed me to continue to foster the emotional and social skills of my students in a very fun and interactive way.

We now have a daily SEL routine where the students journal. This has helped them develop a positive and optimistic approach towards learning. The students absolutely love and have connected to the Ninja books which help with our Growth Mindset during our day.

Once again my students and I thank you for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kennedy

  • Organized Math Manipulatives!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

My students and I cannot even begin to thank you enough for your generous donations. This past year we were faced with many restrictions in our learning space. With all the changes we are now using new desks, in our tiny classroom, that do not give my students storage for their materials.

The storage cubby has been such an amazing addition to our class. Not only does it enhance our class aesthetic, it also allows us to easily access our math materials and help keep them organized. My students can quickly get supplies they need without my assistance. During mini lessons as well as small groups I am able to model using ten frames and base ten blocks. These few changes have made such a big difference in our class.

Once again, my students and I thank you for your tremendous generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kennedy

  • Guided Reading!

    Funded Jan 7, 2022

My students and I cannot even begin to thank you enough for your generous donations. Returning to in-person learning for my students has been a bit of a challenge. When we think back many of them were in Pre-K when the pandemic began. Therefore, they have not had much, if any at all, classroom experience. While at home many did not have enough supplies, especially books, to help support at home learning.

Through your donations, our classroom has been filled with wonderful guided reading books to support their literacy. Guided reading is such an important part of our literacy block. Your donations has truly helped my students on their path to being independent and strategic readers. I am better able to differentiate my teaching to reach each child within the class. In just the first few lessons I can already see the interest in our new titles.

Once again, my students and I thank you for your tremendous generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kennedy

  • Interactive Virtual Learning

    Funded Oct 30, 2020

My students and I cannot even begin to thank you enough for your generous donations. Virtual learning is an uphill hill battle, especially for my ENL 2nd graders. Both my students and I are exploring the unknown. Even through all this, they show up every day eager and willing to give it their all.

Through your donations, our lessons have become so full of life. Now my students are able to watch step-by-step as we solve math problems, read texts, and even make observations. All this with our new document camera. I no longer have to hold books awkwardly in front of the camera or have the students watch me write from afar. Now they are immersed in the lessons.

The scholastic magazine articles also have been beneficial to my students. Stories are more accessible and they are creating an exciting learning environment, from the comfort of their homes. I love hearing how they learned something new or explored topics further that have interested them. The articles have definitely opened many doors for my students.

Once again, my students and I thank you for your tremendous generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kennedy

Teaching virtually has its own challenges for an adult. Now imagine learning virtually for 6 and 7 year old English language learners. Having a document reader will help my 2nd graders during virtual lessons. These materials will help them become more engage in our read alouds. At this time, I am holding text up to my laptop camera. Pictures are small, text is small and interest gets lost easily. I want to help my students feel as if they are sitting in front of our books. I want them to get lost in our texts. I want them to immerse themselves in Scholastic Readers and Science Digest.
