The school is a neighborhood school located in Chicago Chinatown. Nearly all the families live at or below poverty line, and students do not see their parents often due to long hours work schedule. Despite the obstacles, my kindergartners always come to school with enthusiasm and big smiles... Most importantly, they are READY to learn and have fun! All of my students come from ESL (English as a Second Language) Chinese families. Some of them attended pre-school in China but they do not have content knowledge in English and very limited in their native language. They continue to work hard every day and try their best! My kindergarteners are busy workers in my classroom. They have all the tools for them to learn; however, the pencil boxes, water bottles, headsets, folders, and books are taking too much space for them to stay productive! Students will use seat sacks to store their school supplies and also to increase available work space at the desks. A Seat sack is a chair bag that hangs on the back of the student's chair. It provides additional storage and allows children to easily access materials quickly. During instructional time, students will only keep needed supplies on their desks and the rest should stay in the seat sacks neatly. This is a great way to foster organization for the students!
