Carpets in the Kindergarten classroom are essential. Over the Summer last year, my carpet had mold so it was thrown away. As a part of the Balanced Literacy program, teachers must read a book to the students every day. The stories are a part of a monthly theme. It is easier to gather the students to a central meeting spot to allow them to see the pictures and interact with the stories. If purchased, I will use the carpet as the meeting spot. The students will also use the carpet to meet for Calendar Math. Any time that I need to provide whole group instruction or meet with the whole class, I will use the carpet area.
Kindergarten students need to hear how a fluent reader sounds. Having a listening center gives them another chance to hear fluent reading. The headphones will be used at the listening center for students to hear stories read to them without interference of other classroom noises.
