  • It's My Turn!

    Funded Nov 2, 2024

My students are enjoying the rolling ball chairs. When these first arrived, the students got to unpack them and then use their muscles to pump them up. They have learned to make sure the wheels are not locked when they want to roll the chair to a new location. Some students use these chairs every day.

These chairs have added to the options students have for alternative seating in my classroom. Wiggly students can use these chairs to move without distracting their classmates. That helps keep everyone focused on what they are doing.

Thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom. Students appreciate that people who don't know them are willing to support classrooms like ours.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Alternative Seating

    Funded Feb 12, 2025

Students were excited to learn this project had been funded and we were getting another bean bag plus more stuffing. They had fun helping open the packages, opening the filling materials packages, and stuffing the bean bags. We made a little mess with the materials.

One student sat on a bean bag not long after it had been refilled and asked why it smelled funny. We got to talk about the materials, how they were packaged, and why they had a smell afterwards.

They really like the newest bean bag cover. The texture is different from the others we have. The new filling material also makes it heavier than the others. They are all a bit heavier as the recycled memory foam weighs more than the little "beans" the older bags came with.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Happy Campers Go to Auction

    Funded Mar 14, 2024

Thank you again for supporting my class. These items were used as part of our Classroom Economy auctions. Students learned how to bid for items using classroom dollars they had earned throughout the semester. They had to think about if they really wanted something or wanted to wait for a better item later in the auction.

In some classes there were bidding wars which added excitement to the auction. In those classes it was fun to see how much they were willing to pay for items.

Students looked forward to the auctions because they knew there were food items. They are always hungry. I try to provide a variety of items and get items that everyone enjoys so that everyone wants to participate.

Thank you again for supporting our classroom”

  • Read or Play, Learn Our Way!

    Funded Mar 13, 2023

Thank you for another great box of supplies. Last spring students prepared the games and played one day. These will be used more as we have game days, and as I prepare financial literacy lessons.

This school year we are using Read Aloud in my class, so students can hear what good reading sounds like. They are following along with the text as I read. We started with Holes by Louis Sachar. So far this is going well. I look forward to using the other books in this same manner as time goes on.

The unifix cubes are going to be used in future lessons for students who struggle with reading and/or spelling. I will teach them how to use the cubes to create words, then have them work alone or in small groups.

Thank you again for supporting teachers. We appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Foster Imagination

    Funded Oct 18, 2022

Thank you so much for your generosity in providing basic supplies for my students. They have used them to finish classwork and create assignments. One of the pictures attached shows a creative writing assignment in which they had to create a monster as a team and then create a wanted poster for it. Some students have used these materials while working on their Biology projects in my support class. They appreciated not having to walk to Biology to get materials in order to keep working in my class.”

  • Planned It! Nailed It!

    Funded Dec 17, 2021

Each student in my program has been given their own planner. We have had lessons on how to use it. As a class we have added items to the planner. I have done planner checks as well.

The usage has been mixed as it takes time and consistency to develop the habit to use a planner. I intend to keep working with them on this as I know how beneficial this habit can be.

Some students prefer a different style to help them keep track so their usage is less with this format. Again it takes time to learn new habits. Some also have difficulty remembering where the planner went so they keep it in my classroom currently.

We appreciate the opportunity to learn this new skill with your help.”

  • I Am Hungry And You Want Me To Learn?

    Funded Dec 25, 2021

Students were so excited about this project. It was their favorite one all year. If they had gotten their way, everything would have been gone in a couple days. I limited the amount they could have each day to increase the length of time that it lasted and ensure every student had a chance to get something.

The Ramen was their favorite food received. It was the first thing to be used up. They were sad I had not asked for more.

The bars went pretty quickly too. The chips lasted the longest even though they were a popular choice as well.

They are a very hungry bunch and hope I request this project again soon.”

  • It's Basic, Baby!

    Funded Oct 29, 2021

These supplies are used daily in my room. Students frequently forget or lose their pencils and ask for a new one. They use the sharpener you donated to prepare that pencil to be used in the classroom.

The color pencils also get frequent use. Students use them to work on assignments and, sometimes, to draw during a break in class.

The Expo markers are used daily by students to write messages of importance to them counting down various deadlines. They have tracked such things as holiday, breaks, and seniors last day of school. I use the markers during lessons either on our large whiteboard or in one-to-one sessions with students on a personal whiteboard.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

  • Stand or Sit, It's Just My Fit!

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

The stools that you provided are used daily in my classroom. Students are excited and grateful to have a seat that matches the height of the tall desks so they do not have to stand anymore. Regular chairs behind these desks make it difficult to see the students and they were below the work surface of the desk.

At the end of the day the stools are easy to stack so the custodians have a clear path to vacuum our room and keep it clean.

One stool arrived damaged and our shop teacher fixed it for me. He asked where I got the stools because he needed new stools for his room. Now he has some as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Murphy

This classroom serves up to 50 students on a daily basis. Many students struggle with some aspect of learning and benefit from additional support outside the general education classroom. Covid affected their access to school and required a new model and way of thinking. Students have struggled to transition back to regular school smoothly. More than half of our students in 2021 were eligible for the free and reduced lunch program. We are located in a rural West Coast area. The largest town in our area is over 30 miles away.
