Having small rugs in my class will help my students who have high anxiety and stress levels; when they need to, they can grab a rug, pick a spot, and find some peace. My students are often anxious and need physical space to take a breather and to calm down. I want them to know that by grabbing a rug, that signals to me that they need a moment to think or read. For example, if a student is feeling overly excited, they can use a rug to sit on so that they can refocus. Also, if a student is feeling frustrated, they can use a rug to sit on so that they can calm down. Often times, my students struggle to verbalize exactly how they are feeling. Therefore, they need time to think about their feelings and emotions.
