These resources promote multiple areas of our Nevada Academic Content Standards. The books and book bins are here to support my student's love for reading, specifically focusing on standards RL 4.10. Additionally, there are books that are below the 4th-grade level to support all ELA standards, like 4.1, 4.2 & 4.9. More than 70 percent of my students' reading levels are below grade level. By using these texts at their level, they can focus on their fluency and I can help build on their understanding of the main idea, theme, character traits, and inferences while they are reading books they are able to understand.
With these manipulatives & tools to support engagement, students will be able to build on their understanding of math concepts and have fun while learning! The money manipulatives will help students build their understanding of NBT A1-3, helping them to understand place value by seeing it applied to real-world concepts. It will also support their understanding of NBT. B4-6. Students will be able to visually add, multiply and divide. Using money is also an engagement strategy for my students since so many are interested in working with it. The unifix cubes are to support students' understanding of fractions, specifically with the standards 4. NF.A 1&2. Students can use these manipulatives to create and understand equivalent fractions and to be able to compare those fractions.
The whiteboard markers, erasers and post-its are to support in all content areas to engage students in learning. They love to work on math problems using their whiteboards during whole group lessons. They even like using them when they are working on the online learning programs we use. They also immediately get excited to use a post-it to answer any question I pose.
