I work with children with a variety of special needs and together we work towards goals that include fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual perceptual skills, and sensory processing. Some of the skills I am hoping students obtain by using these materials includes; seated/standing balance, motor planning, fine motor strengthening, gross motor coordination, visual motor processing, and sensorimotor skills to name a few. Furthermore, tactile sensory stones teach students the skills for motor planning and balance while providing new sensory information to feet and legs. Alternative seating options like a Hokki stool or rocking chair provide students with vestibular movement they may be seeking as well encouraging good posture and trunk control which is the foundation for good handwriting. My Therapy Fun Zone is designed to be an safe area where students feel comfortable to address challenging motor areas while having fun! Here, they can learn in a non-intimidating way and be challenged while feeling like they are truly playing. Play based therapy is at the root of how children learn and grow. This fun zone will promote just that.
