Students will be able to read about a time during the Civil Rights Movement and make a connection to real-world events. With the novel, students will be analyzing the text and supporting their understanding with excerpts from the novel. The novel shows the events of the civil rights movement through the eyes of a teenager that they can relate to. They will be able to understand how the child felt and events during that time because they will analyze the author's text. Students will end their reading by researching the time period and its connection to the novel. The Civil Rights Movement is an important event that students need to remember and learn from.
