Graphic Novels Are Books, Too!
Funded Feb 12, 2020We cannot thank you enough for supporting our culture of reading here in Harlem! The graphic novels you've provided have not only brought smiles to the faces of some of our most reluctant readers, they have helped make reading both a social and visual experience for our kids. Students have the chance to fall in love with popular authors and read their way through an entire series, something that is a researched-based way of improving reading outcomes for young students.
Because of you, reading in our school is becoming even more exciting. The books have found their way into our mini school library, book vending machine, and most importantly the hands of our young readers. Kids are swapping books and making recommendations to their peers. Students are literally begging for the next good book!
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are all incredibly excited. Boys and girls alike are finding The Dork Diaries, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dogman and Babysitters Club books as fun and engaging reads. Once again, we cannot thank you enough for all you've done to boost the reading lives of our kids!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Willinger
