  • Directional Microphone and Video Stabilizer for Young Movie Makers!

    Funded Oct 5, 2017

Thank you again for your donations towards the purchase of the video stabilizer and microphone for our student's movie-making project. Our students are eagerly learning how to capture and edit video, and have used this equipment throughout the school year. The student film makers' ability to work with and without a script, and their ability to put together a final video product, excites them and impresses those who view their finished products.

Video creation also requires collaboration skills, and our students have shown that they can work collaboratively and effectively to produce these videos. Each student takes turns on screen and off being the scriptwriter, director, videographer, and video editor. It is certainly an important learning process.

However, the best part of seeing this technology put into use is the pride and enthusiasm that the students share from the video project's start to finish. Without your help, they would not have had this wonderful educational experience. Thank you so much for helping to make it all a reality!”

    Mr. Lamy

  • Digital Movie Making for Creative Young Minds

    Funded Apr 17, 2017

Well, you helped us do it! Our school's movie making club got off to a wonderful start late last spring with its debut production: "Booked for Summer". In this student made movie, our roving student reporter walked around our school to ask students what books they recommended that their classmates read over the upcoming summer break. The students had a lot of fun making the movie, and learned so much from the experience. This fall, we will continue with our movie-making tradition, and can now put two iPad minis into the hands of our student filmmakers. This would not have been possible without your generous support.

On behalf of all of us at HGF, thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lamy

  • Full Speed Ahead with Robotics & STEM!

    Funded Apr 3, 2016

Our students and I are extremely grateful for your generous donations towards our Cubelets and mBots robotics kits. The kits provide our students with a wonderful hands-on, engaging, and meaningful learning opportunity.

As they construct these robots, the students learn the value of tinkering, of teamwork, of making mistakes, of problem solving, and of persevering to make the robots function as their designs call for. They also take pride in showing their classmates what they have created and explaining how their robots work. What is more, it is wonderful to see the students having so much "fun" learning and applying these important concepts.

Science and technology are popular topics with our students, and can open the doors to future educational and career opportunities. You can take pride in knowing that you have provided them with resources that will foster their interests and help them on this important journey.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lamy

  • Teaching Students About Robots, Computers, and Computational Thinking

    Funded Dec 31, 2016

It is hard to find words to express our appreciation for your generous donations towards our school's robotics project. Needless to say, we could not have reached our goal without your support.

As you know, our grant was written to purchase additional sets of Cubelets and three mBot robotics kits for our STEAM classes. The Cubelets continue to be a "fan favorite" with our students because they are so well suited to quick design and testing of robotics principles. The mBots have also proven to be extremely popular, although our students and I have experienced a bit of a learning curve in programming them. But that technical challenge is an exciting one, and we will continue to apply those discoveries in our future robotics classes.

Once again, thank you so much for helping us purchase these robots and getting them in our students' hands. Your generous donations will a have far reaching impact with these eager young minds.”

  • Digital Microscopes for Young Scientists!

    Funded Oct 3, 2016

Thank you so much for your support for our Library Media Center's digital microscope kit. These digital microscopes give our students a genuine, "eye-opening" appreciation for what objects look like at the microscopic level. We have posted photographs that show just some of the amazing images that our students have observed with the digital microscopes that you helped purchase for our Library Media Center.

As amazing as these digital microscopes are in allowing students to view common (and not so common) objects at high magnification, they also allow the students to take pictures of what they have discovered and save these images so they can be used in digital media projects to share their discoveries with others.

Simply put, this digital microscope project would not have been possible without your generous support. My students and I can't thank you enough for providing us with this wonderful learning opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lamy

  • Let's Teach More Students About Electronics!

    Funded Apr 25, 2016

On behalf of everyone at Highland-Goffe's Falls Elementary School, I want to thank you for your generous donation towards our Snap Circuits STEAM project.

Most students have a vague idea of what electricity is, and certainly know that electronics are a big part of their lives. Using the Snap Circuits, they were able to build upon that previous knowledge, and learn how specialized components make a circuit work. The enthusiasm that the students have when building these electronic projects is really wonderful to see, and I hope that they will take what they learned and apply it in their future courses.

Once again, thank you for your kind donation. This project would not have become a reality for my students without your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lamy

  • Helping Students Understand the Microscopic World

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you for supporting our school's digital microscope project. The digital microscope and slides that we were able to purchase through your donations provide an engaging example of how science and technology can go hand in hand.

Our students were absolutely amazed by what they were able to view under the digital microscope. By connecting the digital microscope to our Library Media Center's presentation system, our students were able to view objects like the crystals in table salt, the tiny details on dollar bills and coins, microorganisms, and plant structures. Using a traditional optical microscope, these objects could only be viewed by one student at a time. With the digital microscope, entire classes are able to view and study these objects in real time. This allows for a much higher level of collaboration and discussion. However, we don't want to stop there. Our hope is to expand our microscopy technology to reach even more students, and in particular put this technology in their hands so they can conduct their own scientific investigations of the microscopic world.

Giving our students the opportunity to explore STEAM topics is remarkably important since U.S. students are lagging behind other countries in these critical skills. Donations such as yours will help us bridge that gap, and help our students to understand how STEAM topics and activities such as microscopy have a direct tie-in to their lives and, possibly, their future careers.

Thank you again for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lamy

  • Developing Reading and Writing Skills With Legos

    Funded Jan 27, 2016

Thank you so much for funding our Lego Story Starter project. Your generous support has helped spark our students' interest in creative writing by helping them visualize their story ideas in fun and concrete ways.

Our students were so excited to see the Story Starter kit and begin creating their stories using it. With the Story Starter kit, they are developing important writing skills such as collaborating, brainstorming, creating detailed story scenes, exploring vocabulary, and editing. Their enthusiasm working with the Story Starters has had a remarkably positive impact on their engagement and attitudes towards the writing process.

Children are visual, tactile learners with varied learning styles. Tools such as Lego Story Starters provide them with effective and creative ways to structure their stories and transfer those ideas to writing. That is a remarkably empowering process that you have helped them develop.”

  • 3-D Printer to Foster Creativity and Technology

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

Thank you for helping to make our Dremel 3-D printer project a reality.

This past fall, most of my students didn't know (or had a rather vague idea about) what a 3-D printer is. Now, they know what a 3-D printer is and have used it print objects of their choosing. They are also becoming familiar with 3-D printing terminology, and can tell you how 3-D printing might dramatically impact their lives in the coming decades. The 3-D printer was also a big attraction during our school's recent STEAM Education Night. Students and adults alike were amazed at what this printer can do, and were intrigued by the types of learning that are associated with it.

The 3-D printer is a wonderful addition to our school's Technology Club and Makerspace. It has opened our students' eyes to what they can accomplish with this technology, which is just what I had hoped it would do. Thank you again for helping make this all possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lamy

  • Exploring Robotics with Cubelets

    Funded Jan 10, 2016

Thank you for supporting our school's Cubelets Robotics project.

The Cubelets Robotics course has quickly become one our our Technology Club's favorite classes. In it, our students learned hands-on about logic and computational thinking, creativity, problem solving, and collaboration. As you know, these are important skills will help them immensely in middle school, high school, and beyond. In addition, our students presented the Cubelets at our recent STEAM Education Night. The students had a great time demonstrating what they can accomplish with the Cubelets, and they were certainly a big "hit" with the crowd.

You have funded an amazingly empowering learning activity for our students. Once again, thank you so very much for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Lamy
