  • Small Modifications Can Provide Infinite Accessibility!

    As you know this school year had been like no other! I am thankful each day for the power and independence you have provided for my students. The assistive technologies this project was developed for allows my student to access their laptops in ways they could not do with the stock touch pad. I am so very thankful for your generosity each and everyday when I am planning and when I am delivering my lessons. There is nothing greater than to see my students make gains in their goal areas and feel a sense of independence and pride in their work.

    I knew this school year would present a number of unknown challenges, but I never imagined we would still be working remotely as long as we have. I do not know what I would have done, and how I would have been able to reach my students without the tools you provided. I cannot put in words the impact this assistive technology has had. It truly provides my students with the ability to be independent and to access the activities I plan.

    Everyday is exciting! I can keep things fresh and challenging and know my students are making gains in their goals while also building their confidence and independence. My students focus on the screen and also interact with their peers. They can take control over their environment and build a stronger sense of self and self worth. This is truly what it is all about!

  • Let Me See It! Let Me Do It!

    I am so very grateful for the support you have given to me and my students. Having a MimioTeach Interactive Whiteboard and projector has made a world of difference in my ability to reach each one of my students. I feel I am providing each of my students the most appropriate means of accessing the curriculum to best of their ability. I am able to implement the use of the MimioTeach Interactive Whiteboard for cooking lessons, morning meeting, as well as tie in quick video or music clips to just about any theme!

    I am currently able to provide a wider variety of visual and auditory presentations that coincide with my monthly themes. I am also able to invite students up to the board to actively engage using the interactive pen. The increased excitement is undeniable. I can see it as soon as the projector is turned on. I have one particular student who will eagerly jump up and retrieve the pen independently and participate appropriately. The increased level of attention and excitement in each of my students is very noticeable. I am so very thankful for your generosity and support in helping me meet the needs of my students.

    Due to the fact that my students present with various levels of need as well as personalized skills in specific areas, having the ability to differentiate instruction is crucial. With the use of the MimioTeach Interactive Whiteboard, I am able to reach a wider range of students simultaneously. I am able to pique student interest and maintain active participation for all of my students.

    I particularly love the idea that my students are able to follow direction by getting up from their table, and using the interactive pen to mark up the white board in real time. This provides an outlet for social interaction as well as increased autonomy and pride.

  • Please Fill My World with Color!

    I cannot put in words the impact having a colored printer has make in my classroom. I now have the ability to prepare and present exciting, colorful visuals to pique student interest in lessons, daily schedules, and choice making options . The increased interest is very noticeable. I am so very thankful for your generosity and for acknowledgment regarding the needs of my students.

    Many of my students have some level of visual impairment. The use of color, light and texture are crucial to ensure meaningful lessons. With the use of color, my students can better differentiate choice options, see their daily schedules, and better anticipate what is coming next. My students can readily access colored materials and actively participate in activities they can see! Many of my students also use choice making as a means to express themselves throughout the school day. They express choices to create writing samples, express wants and needs, answer questions and socialize with others. Choices are presented all day everyday, and to have the ability to present large, colored choice options allows my students to make informed decisions. My students can now take control over their environment and build a stronger sense of self and self worth.

    Providing colored visuals and using colored materials has been a game changer in my classroom. The environment is bright, stimulating, and just happier! My students are more interested and tend to each activity with a noticeable increase in interest. I think the students are most excited about the morning meeting binder I was able to create in color! Each student has one and they are able to fully participate in group with their own visuals. Each student follows along and works within their own bright, colorful binder!

With your help I would like to incorporate much needed technology, particularly interactive whiteboards in my classroom. This technology will allow all of students to access the material with ease. It will allow me to project computer activities and needed visuals large and full of color! I currently gather the students around my desktop computer. This is not the most ideal means to present visual information to my visually impaired students. It is also challenging to include the students with seizure disorders within the "computer crowd". These students need to remain easily accessible to the classroom nurses. Unfortunately the students with seizure disorders never get a front row seat at the computer during group time. I would like to change this!
