Last year was full of the question, “Can I borrow a pencil?” It was an everyday occurance. I provided as many pencils as possible, but by the end of the year I was out of pencils to give. My students journal 2-3 times a week because I believe they have a voice, and it matters. I let them write about whatever they want, and I encourage them to use their personal writing in their academic writing. Providing something as simple as a pencil to a student gives them the opportunity to continue writing, and shows them I beleive their writing is so important that I will provide them with the tools to do so.
