Mustang Coffee House
Funded Jul 20, 2021When the packages arrived, I had student workers help set up the coffee bar in the library. The students were excited to see the different flavors of coffee they could choose from. They were ready to start reading and taking a test on their books.
I feel I must play a larger role in motivating and accelerating our user-patron learning.
There are many students in and out of the library daily. When I had the idea to create a coffee bar, I felt this would make a crucial shift in student expectations and change the way students feel about libraries. The library is a place where students can read, work on assignments, and research, but also socialize.
The students continue to have input on titles they want to see placed in the library, as well as, adding different flavors of drinks to the coffee bar. This allows an experience in the library.”

Funded Aug 9, 2018The skills that are taught to the students using the Botley Robot are computational thinking that helps develop skills, concepts, and behaviors needed to be successful when solving problems and completing projects. Critical thinking skills and cause/effect are also learned from Botley in a fun and engaging way. The students code hands-on and are screen free.
When using Botley in the library, the students will retell a story by illustrating pictures, setting up cubes and then have Botley coded to move from the beginning, middle and ending of the story. Sequencing is important for students to help them comprehend what they read and to identify the components of a story, which leads the students to have the ability to retell events.
The older students are enjoying the Botley robots because they can design and build obstacle courses and code Botley to go through the course. They also love retelling a story by creating illustrations and coding Botley to begin at the beginning and go through the illustrations in sequential order.”
