My students need a Makerbot 3D printer and filament to create prototypes of prosthetic devices, new technology to prevent concussions, and solve other real-world problems using computer-aided design. The use of a highly reliable, efficient, and fast 3D printer will enable my students to focus on authentic learning opportunities instead of losing class time troubleshooting tech issues. The Makerbot 3D printer will provide my students with compelling opportunities to practice the engineering design process, iterate on designs, and print in a time sensitive manner. Students will create, build, and collaborate while preparing for the jobs of tomorrow. While working through real-world problems, students will utilize the same tools as engineers and scientists in the field. The main goal is to empower students to design, create, and become additive manufacturers. Reliability was the biggest factor in choosing the Makerbot for my students. Empowering students with an effective 3D printer supports them to become problem-solvers, producers of solutions, and creators of change. They will be able to successfully design using CAD, iterate, print, and share their prototypes with the world.
