  • Please Help Us Become Published Authors!

    Funded Apr 6, 2011

It is nice to see that other people share my idea of saving important pieces of writing from our children. If we show children that their work is important to us they will start to feel the same about everything they create. When we received our package the children were excited to see what was inside the big box. I explained that caring people used their own money to purchase a binder and materials for us. We spoke about how a binding machine helps us to create books and keep them together.

We have already used the binding machine to create memory books for the children to take home at the end of the year. We are working on making an all about animal book for the children to also take home. I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to my current and future classes. ”

  • We Would Love More Tags Please!

    Funded Dec 28, 2010

Thank you for your generous donations to my classroom. It is nice to know that other people share my vision of using technology in the classroom to help children learn how to read.

The children are very excited to use the tag readers. We were able to get books that the children were interested in. The children use the tag readers during guided reading, centers or if they have completed their work.

It amazes me how generous people are, how they give their money to support children they have never met. Thank you again for your generous donation to our classroom.”

  • Reading and Connecting with the King School Series

    Funded Nov 8, 2010

I really can't thank you enough for your generous gift to my classroom, it is nice to see that others share my belief of reaching children early and guiding them into a love a reading. These books are what every teacher needs to help guide their children from beginning readers to independent readers.

Last year, some co-workers and I attended a workshop in Manhattan where they had booths of various items from books to machines to sell to teachers. We were walking around when we came across the booth with the King School Series. We immediately fell in love with this series. The books were for first graders but they had so much to offer our children. The books had patterns so that the children would quickly build the confidence they needed to read. They would be introduced to basic sight words that they would see in other books. The characters reoccurred in the series and the various plots were relatable. As if all of this wasn't enough, the series came with a teachers guide. We talked to the representative for the publishing company and they informed us that they would be coming out with the Kindergarten Series soon. So can you imagine my excitement when I saw both Series on the Donor's Choose Website.

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation to my classroom. Since we been using the Kindergarten Series as a whole group lesson the children have this new found confidence that they can read. We start out reading the book as a whole group lesson on Monday, we read it daily and most of the children can read the book independently by Friday. We will start to use the first grade set as guided reading books. The excitement about reading is so high in my room and it's because of generous people like you. Thank you for this fabulous gift you have given to my class and well as my future classes.”

  • Tag, We Want To Learn How To Read!!

    Funded Oct 19, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation to my mixed ability classroom. It is great to see that other people share in my vision of using technology to help children learn.

My children are extremely excited to use these leap pads. They are so excited by the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We watch it on book flicks and when they saw the leap tag and the book they were fighting over who gets to use it first. We use the tag readers to help my children with feeling like they are reading to help them get ready to read. We are extremely excited and so thankful for your generous donation to our class.

I cannot thank you enough for this gift. Please know that we will think of yourgenerous donation when we use our Tag Readers.”

  • Connecting to Our Characters

    Funded Oct 25, 2010

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to my classroom. I am really glad that other people share in the belief that with the right tools every student can read. The tools that you have donated to my classroom will help me do just that, help every student learn how to read.

The boxes arrived today and one of my aggressive children helped me to unpack the books. We opened the Kindergarten set of books and he asked if he could read it. I sat down next to him and helped him with some of the words. He was so confident in his ability that after he practiced the book a few times he asked if he could read the book to the class. I could not have been more proud of him and the look on his face was priceless. I took him to the office where he read the book to the Principal and the Assistant Principal. This really build of this child's confidence and without the tools you donated to my classroom I would not have been able to do this.

Thank you again for your generous donation to my classroom. Without the tools that you gave to my classroom this wonderful teachable moment would not have happened. Thank you again, I look forward to many more stories like this all because of your generosity. ”

  • For the Love of Writing!!

    Funded Oct 18, 2010

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to my classroom. The tools that you have purchased for us will enable me to help my students with letter formation and becoming better writers.

When we received our writing materials my students could not believe that all of the boxes belonged to us. We started using our green books to help the children copy a morning message from the board. They sit on the rug and we use the wipe off charts to model for them letter formation and how to put letters together to form words. When we do our morning message we copy a lot of the same words daily, so the children learn sentence formation and various basic sight words. We use our other notebooks as our writing journal, these books are great because we are able to keep all of their writing and illustrations in one book. Before we received these notebooks we were writing on separate pieces of paper which was hard to keep track of all of these papers. Now we can look in our book and see how our writing has progressed throughout the school year.

Again, I thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. Thank you for these wonderful tools that you have given to my students. ”

  • Guided Reading

    Funded Oct 6, 2010

I can't express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my vision that all Kindergarten children need to learn how to read.

With these tools that you have donated to our classroom we will learn new strategies to help develop our skill of reading. These books are great because they are high interest low level readers. My students need me to help them learn to read and with your generous donations these tools were purchased to do that. I can't believe that these books are in my classroom for us to use daily. These tools will be used repeatedly to help children in my class learn how to read.

Thank you again for your generous donations to my classroom it is deeply appreciated! ”

  • Keeping Children's Peepers on Their Own Papers!

    Funded Jul 5, 2010

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to my classroom. Once we received our package I explained to the children that generous people donated these items to our classroom for us to use. We discussed what we can do with our privacy shields and how we should take care of the wonderful new gifts we have received to use in our classroom.

The privacy shields are very helpful in many situations. In our classroom, we sit at tables as a community of learners. Sometimes everyone needs to have their own little space. These shields give the children just that, the ability to feel that they can do their work without classmates watching to see what they are doing and to stay on task and free of distractions. In the short time since we have received our shields we have used them to work independently and to assess our children. When we start setting the shields up the students all start raising their hand to ask for one. I had one little girl today ask me, "can I have privacy please!"

Thank you again for you generous donation to our classroom. ”

We are from Staten Island, New York. My children come from low income families that can not buy supplies for them. They come from single parent homes that have numerous siblings in the school and parents can't pay for everything. We buy a lot of things for our children and we can always use more things. Our children are wonderful, they are funny, sweet, smart kindergartners who try to please all the adults in the room.
