  • M is for Math Books + Materials= Mastering Math

    Funded Jun 22, 2011

The Kindergarten students would like to thank you for your very kind donation to our classroom. Your generosity made an immediate difference in the lives of my students. They are so motivated, they know someone out there cares enough to give them books, pillows and "blue boxes."

The students had looked at their math workbooks and found the page that had a letter that informs the parents of what we will be learning in that chapter and the books we will be reading. Well, when we received the box of materials containing the books, they were so excited and started matching the books to the chapters. I still need to get more titles but with your donation its a great start!

My students are English language learners and the Math Tutor Boxes, (blue boxes) are just right for the ones that didn't get to attend PreK and for the rest that are learning English.

Your generous contribution will go a long way in improving the math skills of all the children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barrera

  • "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" -- Dr. Seuss

    Funded Nov 4, 2010

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in donating funds to buy the materials needed to find a better and more effective way to introduce rhyme to my second language learners. I don't believe that I will adequately be able to put into words how much receiving this donation means to the children. We are sincerely appreciative, and the impact the Dr. Seuss books have had on the children is amazing. They have been taking the books home to be read by family members. My five year old students love to listen to the stories and they are so excited about learning to read.

Once again, thank you so much for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barrera

  • "Sun-Sational" Science

    Funded Oct 21, 2010

My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donation. We received the science materials on a Monday and all week the students chose the Science Station first. The students were able to do the activities on their own and then proceed to make the observational notations in their journals.

One day we took the hands lens outside to see what interesting objects they could observe up close and they went from looking at grass clippings, leaves from different trees, and acorns to a spider web they found underneath a bench! They were great little Scientists. Once again thank you for supporting the education of my students and my future students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barrera

  • Let's Be A Scientist

    Funded Jul 17, 2010

I am so humbled by your generous contributions to the "Let's be a Scientist" project. Without outside funding it would have been difficult to obtain the needed materials for the science center this year. Knowing that we now have these science resources, will ensure that all of the students have equal access to the materials they need to engage in our inquiry based investigations.

The excitement of the children in opening and exploring all the new materials was awesome. The picture instructions made it easy for nonreaders to work independently, in small groups and in pairs. The experiments will become more meaningful to them as they grasp the content. I am looking forward in engaging the students in important ideas and practices in science.

It is a goal of mine to instill a lifelong love of discovery in my students and your contributions help make this possible. Once again, my students and I would like to thank you for your contributions it will be appreciated all year. Your commitment to the education of my students is heartwarming.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barrera

My kindergarten students will be beginning to discover the wonders of science. They will attend school in a very large urban district in Texas where our science resources are very limited. My curious little students will get a head start at exploring their world around them!
