  • Create a Welcoming Science Classroom!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

Thank you so, so much for your generosity. Your donation will ensure that our students have access to a wonderful classroom that is organized and beautiful. We spend so much time in this building, and some plants and a little sprucing up goes a long way. Thank you so much!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mac

  • Young Scientists Using Technology to Make Gains in Reading

    Funded Nov 4, 2018

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. With our new tablets, our students can follow along to grade-level texts by listening to their teacher (me) read it to them on SoundCloud. They can pause, rewind, and re-listen to parts they want to hear again without feeling embarrassed. They can write notes and better understand the text because it is being read to them out loud.

In addition to reading, some of our students use these tablets to listen to test and quiz questions. Because of this, their test scores have increased and their eagerness to learn has grown. Many of our students specifically request these tablets to help them through a task.

In the future, we plan to use these tablets to guide students through more readings. We plan to "gamify" (use games in) our class to excite more learning. We also plan to continue to find new ways for our kids to grow meaningfully with these tablets.

We cannot thank you enough for your support; our students have another door open to them because of this resource. We have this opportunity because of your generosity. For that, we thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mac

Students First Statistics About Education in America stated, "80% of students from low-income backgrounds read below grade level.” In my class, we seek to close this gap by reading science materials, but our kids need support. My students love learning, and they could love reading. With the help of only 8 Amazon Fire Tablets, my students will be able to use SoundCloud in reading stations, where I have recorded myself reading the articles for students who need that support. My English-Language Learners will be able to utilize Dictionary.com and Google Translate to help them learn new vocabulary words. My students will also be able to receive the appropriate levels of text and corresponding quiz with other various apps. The use of Amazon Fire tablets will transform how our students learn and internalize science, and they will (hopefully) be more enthusiastic about reading when they have the necessary supports.
