My class is in need of two classroom rugs. We had a rug in third grade, but were unable to relocate it to our new fourth grade classroom. Sadly, the school does not have the funds to purchase one for our class. I'm requesting two rugs to create a stronger learning environment in my classroom. One is a large carpet for group meeting area. The carpet is where we gather as a class during the beginning of each lesson. I use this time to set our objective for the day, to introduce new concepts, and to clear up common misunderstandings that I've observed. At times I meet with a small groups of students on a particular concept or skill. It is important for me to differentiate my instruction, so I work with my students in small groups at their instructional level or on areas that are in need of strengthening. Classroom rugs will build a stronger classroom community where students come together as a cohesive unit the takes pride in learning. The second resource is a smaller rug. It's critical for students to have a comfortable place to sit so that they are focused on the lesson at hand. I offer the opportunity for students to choose their independent or collaborative work spaces, and many students enjoy working on the floor to read and sit with a partner. Having a clean, comfortable place for students to work will greatly impact their stamina and enjoyment of being in their workspace.
