Help my special needs students gain a first hand experience to watching the life cycle of a butterfly. My students learn best through interactive, hands-on activities. We need 6 individual Painted Lady larvae cups, so that each student can develop empathy, compassion, and responsibility for their own insect. We will utilize the Painted Lady Butterfly Amazing Bugs kit to give my students the opportunity to witness an amazing metamorphosis as caterpillars turn into beautiful painted lady butterflies. This kit will help us to raise and care for caterpillars and adult butterflies. We will use the Cabbage White Butterfly Culture to watch the growth and development of larvae reach pupation and then emerge as adult butterflies. Once emerged, my students will move the butterflies to a larger habitat. We will use the Painted Lady butterflies and the Cabbage White butterflies to complete side-by-side comparisons. My students will use the butterfly feeding station to feed the newly emerged butterflies. We will utilize the STC Literacy Series™ The Life Cycle of Butterflies readers to support our inquiry-based science lessons with engaging informational text. The books will give my students a natural transition from hands-on investigations, building background knowledge to reinforce conceptual learning, and let my students apply relevant nonfiction to their own real-world experiences. The books will help to encourage critical thinking and allow my students to be actively involved in their learning. The Butterfly Life Cycle Model Set will allow my students to study the butterfly's life cycle and anatomy. My students will observe, predict, and record caterpillar and pupa timelines. We will answer the question Is A Butterfly An Insect?
