Fund a Proven Winner for Our Title I School
Funded May 3, 2022Thank you so much for supporting our "proven winner"--the BreakoutEDU digital escape room subscription! We have been able to use BreakoutEDU to teach library skills and far beyond, for everything from solving math problems in a Thanksgiving-themed escape room, to identifying parts of speech for an ELA lesson, to learning how to use the online library catalog.
These digital escape rooms in BreakoutEDU are so much fun, the students don't even realize they are learning. The platform has a vast library of escape rooms available for use that support the Common Core curriculum, but it is very easy to create an original game, as well.
One of the best parts of BreakoutEDU is that it encourages collaboration and teamwork from students, who typically are working on the puzzles with partners or in groups. Seeing the joy from students who "breakout" of the game is just the cherry on top!”

Ms. Francis
This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Drive-In and 2 other donors.Students + Micro:bits = MAXIMUM Understanding of Computer Science
Funded Aug 26, 2020I can't thank you enough for your generous funding of my Donors Choose project. Bringing micro:bits to my students has been very exciting. Like with everything else, school--and library media class in particular--has been very different this year. We have had to be extra careful not to share materials and only do solo projects, rather than the collaborative group work we normally strive for. I have not been teaching classes as normal, instead focusing on book circulation and technology support.
That's why having access to a class set of micro:bits (thanks to YOU!) has been especially rewarding. I have partnered with our music teacher on more than one occasion. We have taught students how to use MakeCode to code the micro:bits to play songs that the students wrote themselves. Then, we have "hacked" headphones using micro:bits and alligator clips so that the headphones would play the song directly from the micro:bits. It has been thrilling to see even reluctant students perk up and engage with this project. We are so grateful for your help!”

Breakout EDU For Our Title 1 School
Funded May 12, 2020Thank you for funding our BreakoutEDU purchase! This digital "escape room" has proved to be a fun way to connect with students, even when they are learning remotely. So far, we have used BreakoutEDU with a remote 4th grade music class learning a Halloween song. There are already plans underway to use the program to connect with remote art students, as well.
Students have been excited to use this new resource, and teachers appreciate having a way to make remote learning that much more engaging. With new Thanksgiving-themed puzzles recently released by BreakoutEDU, we can extend the learning even when excitement and distractions are high in the days before the holiday.
This year has been filled with constant challenges and surprises. Having another digital tool in my belt to offer teachers has been a huge help. We appreciate your donation to this cause.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Francis
