This is my first year at this school whose resources are very limited compared to what I'm used to. It's a low performing school in a socioeconomically challenged location in California. Most, a large percent, of the students come to this middle school testing below grade level, in many cases at least 2 to 3 grade levels below where they should be. But this doesn't mean they are apathetic towards learning. They are eager but just need to be engaged in a variety of ways to tap into their curiosity, which is what drives us to explore and learn. I want to create a learning environment that facilitates this. Being an elective, my students are heterogeneous. I teach Special Education students, ESL students, and regular education students. It's a dynamic group of kids that need dynamic resources.
