Funded Dec 2, 2023Thank you for your generous donations of snacks for my students. A third of my class come to school every day without snack and often without eating breakfast. It was very relieving to be able to offer snacks to thos who did not have any.
We received enough snacks for the children to be able to have one every day for a few months. The children were excited when they saw treats that they often love to eat but did not have with them. They also loved being able to have snacks like their friends in the classroom and being able to share with them.”

Finding Fossils
Funded Dec 9, 2023Thank you so much for the wonderful donations of fossils and books that were related to the topic the students were learning. We have had an enormous amount of budget cuts this school year and they have directly impacted what materials the students in my class have needed. The new curriculum we received this year had interesting, new topics for the children to learn about but was severly lacking in materials, supplies, books and copies. With a lot of errors done during production of the curriculum, the students have suffered the most as the teachers have tried to piece the curriculum together. I have a class of 26 students and 24 of them speak English as a second or third language; these hands on materials were a great way for them to explore and learn about fossils.”

I Am Proud to Be Me!
Funded Apr 25, 2022Thank you for your generous donation. The students were able to create books and posters about themselves, their families and their cultures.
My students loved that they were able to use skin color kits and craft people to make different projects about themselves. Because of the items you donated the children were able to create dolls that actually looked like them. They loved being able to celebrate who they are and the materials helped show them how beautiful our class is as a rainbow of different skin colors.”

Funded Feb 22, 2022I am truly grateful for the Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card that you provided me with. I was able to purchase multiple activities to extend their learning of various topics.
I am a believer in being creative and generating materials based on the needs of your individual students as that captures them to be engaging learners but I am also realistic to the demands of a NYC teacher's job and how there just is not enough time to do it all.
At the end of the day, I do not want my students' love of learning and curiosity to be impacted by the demands of the parts of my career that are behind the scenes. I am grateful that I was and still am able to provide my class with differentiated, intriguing and fun learning opportunities.”

Cozy Calming Corner
Funded Feb 14, 2022Thank you so much for terrific donation. As the children began returning to in-person learning this year, many of them had a hard time adjusting to the classroom environment. They struggled with learning how to socialize in a new world with masks and at a distance from their peers.
As many though the pandemic, with remote and hybrid learning was an intense school year for students; I believe this past school year with the ever-many daily changes to policy, schedules and regulations was the most difficult for school children to endure.
The materials you supplied my students with allowed them to have a place where they could freely go to explore and help them feel better. I had a child whom, whenever he was upset would go directly to the calming corner and I knew that was his way of telling me he wanted to speak to me because he was upset.
I also was able to use these materials with third graders who I was working with on Saturdays to help them prepare for the state test. The calming corner materials allowed my students to feel better, to focus on work, to feel comfortable and to socialize in a small group with their peers.”

Share Our Stories, Hear Our Voices
Funded Feb 11, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation! The children loved being able to work on a project about themselves. Your donation allowed them to be able to create life-sized dolls that truly looked like them because they were able to match their skin color to them.
The children in my class and school are from all different types of backgrounds and colors. We have focused many of our SEL lessons on teaching the students how to embrace their unique identities and be proud of who they are.
My students loved being able to share what means a lot to them and what about themselves they love and would encourage in others. It is not easy to teach these lessons in a Kindergarten classroom but having materials like this makes the learning opportunity available to all children.”

Funded Sep 17, 2020I was able to share these books with my class remotely. While I was teaching remotely, I did not have any access to my classroom library and I had a difficult time finding specific books that I needed to teach various lessons in my class. By receiving this project from Donors Choose I was able to share my love of various books with my students and they enjoyed listening to them.
In my classroom, I encourage my students to explore the different libraries in my classroom and explore the differences among all the books we have. I have also been able to use these stories with older students who need reading intervention.
Many of my second language learners and students of various ethnicities enjoy the books I received the most as there are stories and characters that they can relate to and understand.
Thank you for your generous donation.”
