Each week the teacher will read aloud a book from the supply list. The books will help students improve their listening and speaking skills while enhancing their vocabulary and comprehension. Each book selected teaches students a life lesson and how to overcome difficult obstacles, which many students can relate to. This will help students with everyday life challenges and different reading skills in Third Grade. Students will complete ELA activities that coordinate with the story and common core standards. Students will use their notebooks for interactive journaling and note taking. For example, the teacher will read aloud, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." Students will complete grammar, vocabulary, spelling and writing activities that align with the book and Arizona 3rd grade standards. They will need mead journal notebooks to complete the interactive activities. The assignments need to be cut out and glued into their books. Students will need scissors, glue and pencils to complete weekly assignments. The outcome goal is for students to have find a love for reading, improve comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, writing and reading skills. In addition, students will be using dry erase boards during Math class. The dry erase board markers and erasers will be used daily for problem solving in Math.
