Giving low-income students access to engaging nonfiction text is integral to developing strong readers. These subscriptions to Scholastic News and Time for Kids will motivate students to be engaged in their reading and give them the opportunity to learn about current events in the world around them. They will be able to increase their fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary through the use of these magazines.
We do not have textbooks and these subscriptions are colorful, appealing, and rigorous. My students love that they are not only given black and white copies of text like we have had to use in the past.
They meet the Common Core Standards and will help to ensure all students meet the 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee! I can't wait to see their faces light up when they see these magazines!
