Third Grade Scientists
Funded Mar 12, 2022I am at a loss for words! Thank you for believing in me and my students. My third graders are going to love diving into scientific small groups with these science kits. We are especially excited about using our critical thinking skills to build habitats for animals to stay cool in these upcoming hot months. We will be visiting a shelter and donating supplies in addition to using our science kit.”

Funded Nov 16, 2018These Chrome books have been a huge blessing to our classroom. For the past two years I have shared computers with three other second grade classrooms which was a struggle. Now, each day when I walk into my room I feel like my students have new opportunities at their fingertips. We use our Chrome books for so many different activities. We use them to listen stories plus reading nonfiction and fiction texts independently. We are able to practice our typing. We work on math fluency and money games. Using the computers has eliminated paper tests almost completely from my classroom.
The students are still so excited when they are able to use the Chrome books because of their newness. These computers are "theirs." They are able to save their passwords onto websites. Which saves us all a lot of time. They are able to save documents they need when we are researching authors, books, and current events. They have become so much more comfortable with handling the Chrome books, searching websites, and asking questions about typing correctly.
This new technology is especially great for my struggling readers because they are able to listen to books more. When students are able to hear others reading it helps their comprehension and fluency. My struggling readers have been answering more questions and becoming more engaged because of this technology.
My class and I would like to thank you again for giving us the opportunity to expand our learning with technology.”

Ms. Kellogg
Adventure Time
Funded Jun 8, 2018Words cannot describe how grateful the students and I are for the gifts you have provided for our classroom. I would love to tell you about the impact of your gifts by describing how our lessons have changed since we started using the materials.
During our independent reading time the students read their own books for 20 minutes. Then, for 10 minutes I read " Kid President Guide to Being Awesome" out loud. This is a great way for students to listen to a different genre of text. There are more genres then fiction and non-fiction that they haven't been exposed to, yet. I love being able to use expression while reading; this allows me to show the students not to read like robots. (Something we work on daily.)
In our classroom Reading class takes up most of our morning. During our Reading class the students listen to me read a story out of our reading curriculum. We have discussions where the students ask and answer questions. After our whole group reading time we do Reading Centers. In Reading Centers there are six different groups: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Writing, Reading Skill, Phonics, and reteach with Miss Adams. During Centers I am using the awesome board games I got with my project. The board games go over important reading skills, such as comprehension, making predictions, sequencing the story, and using context clues.
My favorite part about having this project funded is watching how excited my students are when we use the floor pillows, sight word bingo, reading games, math puzzles, or the echo dot. My students have been able to learn how to work with others, how to ask and answer higher order thinking questions, and how to enjoy learning. We have had so much fun with all of our new materials. Thank you!”

Ms. Kellogg
