This flexible seating project will allow my students the option of choosing a place to sit at various points throughout the day. During independent work time, such as writing, and independent reading work, students will be allowed to chose a flexible seating option. This project would provide multiple options for students to choose from and procedures in place would ensure that students would be able to experience a different type of seating each day. Some choices, like the stability balls and bungee chairs, would allow students to remain at a table if they chose while other choices, like the portable desks and textured cushions, would allow them to create a work space at any child-friendly place in our classroom.
By choosing to donate to my project you will be allowing my students the ability to make choices about aspects of their learning, and enable them to incorporate physical movement into their academic work. Flexible seating allows young children the ability to do some physical movement while they work. It removes the constraints of a traditional desk and chair for some parts of the school day. This option to move around and flex their muscles helps their minds to remain engaged and complete their work. Additionally, although it is a small choice, giving my students choices throughout the day about things like where they will sit for certain times, helps build their decision making abilities and gives them control of their learning. As students get older they will need these important skills.
Thank you for considering to donate to this project. My students would be so excited to be given the opportunity to experience flexible seating in our classroom. It would strengthen their bodies, engage their minds, and help them practice some independence in the classroom!
