The future is in my classroom! To be successful in the 21st century, my students need STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) skills! All students, but especially kindergarten students, learn best hands on. We will use these STEAM tools to engage our Kindergarten students in hands on, critical thinking, and problem solving, while also teaching them to work together cooperatively. When my students are able to dive into a project hands on their eyes light up! The energy radiates through the room. They talk to each other more, problem solve longer, and learn things I could not teach them from a lecture.
In the real world, my students will be going up against other children who build Lego cities before school, spaceships out of magnatiles once they get home, and looked at the countries in the world on their place mat during dinner. All the while my students' families are working multiple jobs to ensure a roof over their head and food on the table. This means I have to work even harder to help my students develop the critical thinking and STEAM skills necessary to be successful outside of the four walls of our school. These tools will help to deeply engage my students who are so eager to learn!
These STEAM tools will be rotated between our three Kindergarten classrooms for maximum use and exposure! We will use the Legos, Magnets, K'Nex's, and all other STEAM tools during our morning work time, as part of our math and literacy centers, during our science block, and even during writing! These resources will be incorporated into each part of our day! We would be forever grateful for your support in helping to supply the resources necessary for my students to begin this STEAM journey!
