Many of my students struggle with sensory regulation and most are overstimulated by lights and sounds which makes it hard for them to stay focused. I want my students to feel welcome and safe in a learning environment that is engaging by using centers, such as, a market. This will encourage reading and math in a fun hands-on way and invite students to communicate with each other in order to help with social and emotional skills as well.
I want my students to have a fun environment that will encourage learning with hands-on materials and sensory seating.
The materials like the cushions and wobble chair will be used to help with students movements. The bean bags will be used throughout the day to encourage positive behavior during non-preferred activities. The other items such as the sight word sandwiches, sentence skewers, sight word and word building dice and other hands-on learning games will be used to help keep learning fun and encourage communication and social/emotional skills within the centers.
