  • Making the Cut: Using Cricut to Enhance STEM Learning

    Funded Mar 13, 2023

Thank you so much for donating to this project.

The cricut machine is helping students have fun as they learn. It also is keeping students engaged with hands-on activities that support STEM learning and that help them apply their learning to real-life applications.

Students are having fun showing their creative side by working on projects. They are also gaining problem solving skills as well as cooperative skills by working together.

Some of the projects that the students have been working on include three-dimensional geometric designs that they print and fold into objects and manipulatives for math. Recently, they created some fun Halloween-related projects to decorate their classrooms.

I and the students at my school very much appreciate your generosity in donating to this project. You have made a positive difference in the educational experience of these students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. C.

  • There's an App for That!

    Funded Jan 26, 2017

Thanks to your generosity, my students now have a charging cart to use in their related arts classrooms to charge and store their iPads.

Before receiving your donation, my school had a class set of iPads in every core classroom (ELA, math, science, social studies) but not in their related arts classrooms (art, robotics, music, physical education). We had the iPads necessary to create one class set to be shared among the related arts classes, but we did not have a charging cart or the necessary charging accessories (USB cables and adapters) for these iPads.

Students at my school are now able to enhance their academic experience with iPads in every classroom. They also had the experience of putting together the iPad cart which came unassembled.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. C.

  • Turn the Page

    Funded May 5, 2015

Thanks to your support of my project "Turn the Page," students at my school are benefiting from a bibliotherapy collection with titles relevant to their coping needs.

Even though it is only two months into this school year, many of our students have already dealt with a number of issues including bullying, conflicts, suicide idealization, and self-image. The flood that devastated South Carolina in early October directly impacted a number of our students. The books in our bibliotherapy collection have helped students learn how to cope. Several students have told me that they didn't realize how helpful reading a book could be, that they felt better after reading stories about young adults like them who had experienced the same issues. Since the bibliotherapy collection is available to any student who comes to the library, the books are being checked out and appreciated by many students, not just those who are referred by the guidance counselors. As these books are being read, other students are becoming more aware of and utilizing this valuable resource.

Now that the bibliotherapy collection has been established and has been well received by students and staff, I plan to continue to add to the collection as funds allow. I so appreciate your support which made this collection possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. C.

Exposure to violent crime is common for students growing up in poverty. There are students at my school whose only meals are the breakfast and lunch they eat at school. Many students at my school are growing up in a single-parent home or are being raised by a relative. Some students live with a foster family. There is a lot of transition in the student population at my school. Students move from school to school within and outside the district. Being homeless is also a reality for some of my students. Additionally, my school serves students whose families are stationed at the local military base. Students from military families have to deal with one or even both parents being deployed and away from the family for extended periods of time.
