  • Blacker Than Ever!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

When you take a peek into any of the classrooms at our school, you will witness students reading, annotating, discussing the literature in small groups, and asking clarifying questions to improve comprehension skills. The students enjoying the books the most are those who have had some academic challenges and often times the ones who are more of an introvert. They are able to see themselves, have meaningful dialogue, and express themselves using strategies that end with successfully handling conflict resolution. We will continue to add more students to the circle in order to make a greater impact.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ringo

  • Positive Vibes Only!!

    Funded Jul 12, 2021

The students had an opportunity to understand how the vinyl would be used in order to create positive slogans on t-shirts, bags, hats, etc. which will be given to another student who always has positive vibes. They will also get the opportunity to create more products as additional resources are donated in order for several work stations to be created using the Cricut die cut machine. They have also shown growth and are more welcoming of others who they may not vibe with on a regular basis in class or during lunch, so thy are off to a great start.”

  • Boys Are Readers Too!

    Funded Jan 8, 2021

These books helped broaden the reading and interest level of the middle school boys. It was very interesting to see the boys read as much as the girls. They would read much longer than their assigned daily 20 minutes. Because the books were much different than what the typical read as outlined in their reading curriculum. They were able to comprehend better, use their skills of annotating, and have more thorough conversations with their peers. Not only did they enjoy the books, but they challenged the girls to read as well.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ringo

  • Students Need Respite Too!

    Funded Nov 3, 2019

The resources have been utilized to create a safe space for black and brown girls to journal, discuss, create, and just be themselves. The girls are excited to continue the journey of tapping into themselves and what they bring to the cultivation of friendships. Students who are typically shy and withdrawn are joining in on conversations and helping to facilitate circles. Being able to see the young ladies beam with a different level of excitement and a noticeable change in behavior shows that the resources are impactful.”

Thank you so much for investing in a safe space for black and brown girls. • Sew Many Things to Make

    Funded Dec 23, 2020

We are still virtual, but when the students saw the sewing machine and materials, they were so excited. While preparing to teach an after school sewing class, in found it so rewarding to know some young men wanted to sign up and create projects to wear and donate. I have been asked several times, "Is there any way we can get started virtually."

We have a number of projects will will begin with and work our way up to more advanced projects. I have personally enrolled in a sewing academy in order to give the students additional support, resources, and creative ideas.

The next step is waiting for schools to reopen, prepare a space for sewing classes, and let the students create.”

  • Staying Safe While Face to Face

    Funded Nov 13, 2020

With a handful of students attending face to face learning, the masks have added an extra layer of safety for staff and students. Students are still able to effectively speak, complete partner work, while still social distancing. Having quality masks on hand creates a sense of relief knowing that we have extra PPE on hand for those who may not have a quality mask.Students have enjoyed wearing the mask and they show up daily in full compliance. This donation was needed as we still try to create a sense of normalcy in school.”

These bins will hold games and resources in the positive behavior room where they will get a chance to relax when positive behavior is displayed consistently. Students will be able to earn time out of the classroom to take a mental break. Students will learn how to build positive relationships with other students while working on projects, playing competitive games, and developing strategies for conflict resolution in and out of the classroom. The students will have a place to call their own, but they know that the entry is through positive behavior. When students are able to get rewarded for their behavior there is a greater chance that they will be consistent in their positive actions
