Extraordinary learning with ordinary tools!

Help me give my students what they need to succeed in our classroom! Every day we use HW folders as well as writing tools to annotate in our ELA textbook, to draw and label, and to practice spelling.

Thank you so much for our chargers and the towers of outlets. In a classroom where we are lucky enough to have one to one devices for each student, there are also loads of caveats. Number one being that chargers are lost or misplaced. Then, of course, there's the echo across the room of, "My iPad died!" But NOW, we have loads of chargers and outlets for every single device. No longer do we have to "prioritize" plugging in based on how much battery is left on a device. When we are done using the devices for the day, we easily plug them in after the children place them in our storage tub. The wires from all the chargers in all the outlets in these ingenious towers are readily available to plug right in.

This type of gift in our classroom is used every single day, and my coteacher and I smile inside each time we plug in, knowing that when the children next need their devices, no longer will we hear, "My iPad died!" In fact, they are all very much alive, and helping our children complete assessments without delay, practice important reading and math skills in a fun and engaging way, and available for our kids whenever they need!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Goldman

  • Turning New Pages in First Grade!

    Funded Nov 24, 2023

Thank you for your generous contribution to my (and my wonderful co-teacher's) classroom. We have been using our personal whiteboards, and reading the colorful, engaging easy readers, which are all organized by genre and/or author. This makes access to appropriate books more intuitive for the children. During our informational text unit, children learned loads of interesting things about animals such as, sharks, moths, and penguins - to name a few. They were fascinated!

Independent reading time has experienced a lot of growth since the start of the year, and many of our students have been able to "crack the code" to read texts all by themselves. It's like magic, watching them decode words and scoop their sentences to gain meaning from the text. These photos show how engaged our students are, and how they have gained a type of agency that urges them to show their understanding, and share it.

Thank you for your support and your openness to helping me make a difference for the fantastic first graders in our room. These materials will continue to help them be fully interactive with their learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Goldman

  • Staying Focused in Fourth Grade

    Funded Sep 18, 2019

Our classroom offers all our students a place to focus during independent work, and a place to work hard and use our noggins to perform as best we can on assessments. All, thanks to the gift of generous folks who helped provide our privacy boards, along with the super organized holder! Children know that during assessments we use our boards to help us stay focused on the important task at hand. Also, it's so easy for the kids to help themselves, and clean up after themselves. My co-teacher and I love the privacy boards and all they offer for the kids. They are so sturdy, and effective!

Did you know that these also offer kids a private spot when they are simply working independently? They do! When a child is feeling distracted by another working group, or is stuck on a particular concept, if he or she needs some time alone to figure it out, it's right there! He or she can go to our handy storage spot, grab a board, and get back to work - without distraction. We offer a lot of partnership work time, however, some kids need that alone time to solidify new conceptual learning, and these boards support that need. How great!

Thank you all for your generosity and your support of learning and growing children!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Goldman

  • Heard in Third: Earbuds Help Us Focus During Computer Time

    Funded Apr 17, 2018

The earbuds are a success! Children are able to focus on the audible directions of their intervention instruction on the computer, and they can more effectively respond and grow from the program. Our computer lab time has changed from noisy and a little chaotic, to quiet, focused, and productive! Each child knows his or her "pouch" number, in which are placed his or her dedicated earbuds and card with username and password for reference when logging in. At the start of computer time, my students grab their pouches and get signed in quickly and eagerly! Then, at the end of lab time, they wind up their earbuds' cords, and replace them in their pouches, along with their cards. Then, we are ready to collect, and move on to more learning in our day.

Many students are more engaged than ever in this intervention reading and math program that we are fortunate enough to use at our school, and more engagement means more success. I am so thrilled for my donors' generosity! You helped me to help my students, and it's certainly paid off. Not only did my current students enjoy your gift, but my future ones will, too! I'll clean off the earbuds, create new login cards, and these pouches will be ready for next year's class. Such lucky kids!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Goldman

Our school is lucky to be able to use an online reading and mathematics intervention program. Students are provided an entirely individualized instruction based on correct and incorrect answers, response times, and demonstrated mastery. Students are asked to bring to school their own earbuds or headphones so that each child can avoid straining to hear directions over his or her many neighbors' computers. My students are unable to bring in ear buds to use during our computer lab time twice weekly; their families cannot provide these tools. If every child has ear buds, that means every child can hear their individualized computer lessons in reading and math each week. If every child has earbuds, that means more productive use of a learning tool that our school has worked hard to provide. Hearing means listening, and listening means learning! Help my third graders focus and listen well during computer time twice weekly. Imagine the sound of 26 children learning and following their own individualized instruction!
