Inspiring Stories for Exceptional Learners
Funded Aug 30, 2019We have received our books and we are so super excited to add them to our curriculum. It is so fun for the kids to get new material to explore. Sometimes, due to limited resources, the kids are exposed to the same stories over and over. These books will ensure that the students experience new authors and new content.
We have begun to incorporate the stories into our weekly whole group reading time and the students absolutely love them! We are able to use the text for comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and even writing activities. These books are aligned to our state teaching standards which makes it so seamless to transition into our lesson plans. We have used some of the stories so far for inferencing, summarizing, making connections and analyzing the setting.
After the book is introduced we put the text in a literacy station so the students can further explore them on their own. Some students have been inspired to write alternate endings for the stories, some get excited about finding the weeks vocabulary words in the text and some just love to read it again. The impact of these books has been extraordinary!”

Funded Apr 12, 2018We are so excited and thankful for our new tablets! As soon as they arrived we set them up, downloaded approved applications and were ready to work. The students, who are so tech savvy, immediately went to work on an Independent Investigative Method project researching animals. This technology is so useful in doing research, books can become outdated fairly quickly so having access to real word sites is awesome.
The students were so excited to have new tablets, they run so much faster and the graphics are amazing. All the photographs and videos they were able to watch were so helpful in completing their research. They are working so well sharing the devices and they are keeping each other accountable for taking care of them :)
I have some students in my class who do not have any technology available to them at home so being able to use these tablets at school really helps show them a different way of learning and will impact their researching skills as they move forward in their education. Thank you again so much for contributing to our project, we are forever grateful!”
