  • Starting the 2019 School Year Off Strong

    Funded Jul 30, 2019

Our Kindergarten Classroom is full of feelings of gratitude and appreciation for your kindness and generosity. Your donations are already broadening the horizons of our young students through math investigations. Our children love using the math tool boxes to figure out problems in a variety of ways and this is something that will be valuable as they get older. Through their own home school folders, our students are able to complete homework and we are able to effectively communicate with families.

Thank you so much for making it possible for every student in our classroom to write in their own journals on a daily basis. Our students' faces truly lit up when we showed them our new classroom tools -- proof that this will be a success! As teachers, we are just as committed to encouraging our students' love for school.

    Thank you,

    Ms. Miamis & Ms. Ross”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Miamis

  • Reading Bags for Kinders

    Funded Jan 12, 2019

Our Kindergarten Classroom is full of feelings of gratitude and appreciation for your kindness and generosity. Your donations are already broadening the horizons of our young students through literature. Our children love to read and this is something we want to continue to encourage as they get older. Through their own book bags, many of these students will feel ownership of their own books for the very first time. With this ownership, we can already see a sense of pride and an increasing confidence of reading fluency.

Thank you so much for making it possible for every student in our classroom to access a wide range of books on a daily basis. Our students' faces truly lit up when we showed them our new classroom tools -- proof that this will be a success! As teachers, we are just as committed to encouraging our students' love for reading.

    Thank you,

    Ms. Miamis & Ms. Ross”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Miamis

We are looking for ways to continue our students' love for reading with engaging books and durable bags for them to use at home. The majority of our students do not have ANY books at home to read. Book bags for the classroom will allow each student to have differentiated books at their access level readily available to them. These book bags will be labeled with each student's name to allow smooth access for independent reading. With almost 100% of the student population being English Language Learners trying to grasp all of the concepts of the English Language, it is extremely important that they spend as much time as possible immersed in books. These books bags will also hold sight word and picture cards. Students sit in pairs and quiz each other and this helps increase vocabulary. A lifelong love of reading begins at a young age; there is no better time than kindergarten to spend time investigating all different types of books. These reading bags will help all students have access to level appropriate books that they are interested in. In the process, students will be improving their reading abilities which will make them all feel more successful. Our hope is that this experience will instill for our students a true love of reading.
