  • Softball and Track & Field Equipment for Scholar Athletes

    Funded Jul 18, 2008

With our state in a budget crisis you have really come through for our students helping provide athletic equipment they would otherwise have to do without. Last spring our girls softball team began a rebuilding process after losing our coach and field for a few years. The girls were enthusiastic and had a great time and learned a lot, particularly about keeping their grades up and balancing academics with extracurriculars as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. We also fielded our school's first ever track team and had one of our runners win a league medal against such running powerhouse schools as L.A. Dorsey and Crenshaw. Because we had no equipment we were unable to compete in relays or in any field events. Next year we will have access to a college track for practice and, thanks to your generous gift, will have batons and shot puts. Thank you so much”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. S.

  • Short On Books For An Inner City AP Class

    Funded Dec 31, 2007

Thank you so much for your generous gift to my students. We are having a productive semester -- have already read and written about Ragtime, Slaughterhouse Five, Jitney, Uncle Vanya, lots of short fiction and poetry. Students have already begun to receive acceptances from colleges -- including UCLA, Loyola Marymount, USC, Northwestern, and NYU. Now, I've got one more semester to make sure they are all ready for this next step. It's great to know that kind souls like you stand with me in that effort.

    Sincerely,

    Larry ”

  • Support an athletic program for innercity scholars

    Funded Dec 16, 2007

On behalf of my student athletes, soccer and basketball, I want to express our gratitude for your generous gift. We've been making due with old equipment which referees sometimes regard dubiously. On several occasions, thus far this season, we've had to play home games with a ball provided by the visitors. New balls will make a tremendous difference, one less thing to worry about, more focus on excellence and character building.

    Sincerely,

    Larry S

  • First Aid Gear For Deserving Athletes

    Funded Dec 14, 2007

On behalf of all the Middle College HS athletes, their parents and coaches, thank you so much for your generous gift. These first aid kits will keep our athletes safe and healthy as they compete for years to come. It will also improve the learning experience of our student first aid assistants who help wrap, tape, bandage, and ice athletes during games.

    Happy Holidays and God Bless.

  • Providing Athletics To Scholars

    Funded Dec 30, 2006

On behalf of the Middle College HS basketball team, we offer our profuse and profound thanks for your generosity. I had actually rescheduled our home games for this season to begin as late as possible to give us more time to somehow raise the funds to pay the referees. Your gift relieves us of a great burden. It has been an interesting season thus far. We had a great many players unable to participate because of their 10-week report cards (not maintaining a 2.0 GPA) and almost all of them learning a great lesson from that and improving their study habits tremendously.

Meanwhile, the four seniors on the team have all applied to four year universities and three have already received acceptances -- from CSU Bakersfield, Northridge, and Humbolt.

As for the team itself, we are in third place and hoping to overcome the two teams ahead of us though they are both formidable, especially in terms of size and strength.
