The foundation of our preschool program is early literacy. We emphasize letter recognition and sounds, rhyming words, print and word awareness, and nursery rhymes. Success in all of these areas determines our students reading readiness. We use a lot of hands-on manipulatives to teach those common areas but we have been fortunate to have a computer program that teaches the students these skills in a fun way. Each child's program is different because the students are assessed and placed on the program based on their readiness. The students thoroughly enjoy their time on the computer and look forward to learning something new each day. Our difficulty is the quality of the headphones that the students use. We have some headphones that have small wires exposed, the protection cushion on the ear part of the headphones are either torn or gone. The cords are too long and are not user-friendly for my pre-k students. I think the wireless headphones will make their time on the computer a little more enjoyable because they will not have to worry about using headphones that have a frayed cord or no cushion to protect their ears and most importantly I believe the sound quality would be so much better making the learning experience even more exciting.
