Space for Learning
Funded Apr 16, 2024There are not sufficient words to fully thank you for your generosity. My students were so excited when they found out that our project had been funded. The day the table arrived several of my kids volunteered to stay up during lunch to help me assemble it. They tore into the box like it was buried treasure! Within minutes we had it set up and enjoyed the rest of the period having our lunch around the table.
Each class that came to my room after was filled with excitement when they saw our new table. It has become a safe place for my students to get extra help when they need it. I rotate which group gets to use it each week as their work space. It has also been a fun place for students to collaborate. Thank you again for bringing new life to my class!”

Making Math Meaningful
Funded Dec 6, 2022Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my Donor's Choose Project. My students and I use many of these resources every day. The post-its are used daily during our warm up to put answers on the board; this allows even the shyest, or less confident, students to contribute without being nervous. The dry erase markers are also used daily when the students are collaborating on tasks and showing their work.
My students were beyond excited when we received the materials. It was like Christmas morning! The timing worked out perfectly; the day after they arrived we began our algebra unit and the students were able to use the algebra tiles to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts. I was also able to provide my students with a more visible and relatable model but having my own set of magnetic algebra tiles to display on the board.
These materials also came in handy for our unit on proportional relationships. It was very helpful to have the huge magnetic dry erase graph to model for my students. They also really liked having access to their own dry erase graphs to work on. It also helped us save a lot of paper!
Thank you again for your generosity. Many of these materials will benefit my students for years to come.”

Funded Mar 28, 2021There are no words to sufficiently thank you for the supplies you helped my class obtain. These materials allowed my students to safely collaborate as well as get up and move around the room. An added bonus of these materials was that it gave my students that are shy the opportunity to share their ideas with out having to speak in front of the class.
My students were so excited when we returned to in person learning and they saw all of the new materials we had to work with.
One particular activity they enjoyed was using the large post-it's to do gallery walk. Another one they enjoyed was vocabulary Tic Tac Toe.”

Funded Mar 25, 2020Thank you so much for funding my project. Thanks to your generosity I was able to bring our classroom into my students home during remote learning. The markers and chart paper allowed me to create vivid charts to help my students learn important concepts. The sentence strips have been used to word walls with important vocabulary as well as number lines for when were learning about integers and created number lines.
When my students saw the materials they were excited and also felt comfort. During this crazy time it was comforting to them to have a sense of familiarity. It also provided continuity as we transitioned from in person to remote. Even they they couldn't physically visit the word wall, they could see it and I was able to interact with it based on their command.
We will now be using these materials to explore equations. Students will be creating manipulative a with the sentence strips and chart paper that will help them better understand the concept. Thank you again for your generosity!”

Cricut Maker, Making Math Meaningful!
Funded May 11, 2018The Cricut Maker has been a wonderful addition to my classroom! This versatile machine can be used in multiple ways to make math more meaningful. The first project my 6th graders used it for was when we were learning about integers on a number line. Prior to 6th grade the students did know anything about negative numbers and exhibited great difficulty with placing them on a number line. Using the Cricut Maker I was able to cut out different aquatic shapes that students placed on a vertical number line based on the story they were given. Having a tactile object made it easier for students to grasp the concept and understand it's real world application. I have also used the Cricut to cut out circles that I use in an activity where I activate students prior knowledge on a topic. I have also used it to cut out circles made of dry erase materials so that they have a place to do calculations at my group work tables.
When I explained to my students in the beginning of the year that we were extremely fortunate to have a Cricut Maker they were confused, as many of them had never heard of this machine before. Once they saw it in action they understood my excitement. Some of them will soon begin learning how to create projects using the Design Space software.
Although this machine will largely be used to make manipulatives to help students grasp mathematical concepts, I am very excited about one of our upcoming projects. We are a Leader In Me School, which means are students practice the seven habits of highly effective people to unlock their true potential. A team of students will work on designing and creating motivational quotes to be displayed in our classroom and in the school common areas using the vinyl we received through this donation. It truly makes my students feel special that they will be able to inspire their fellow classmates.”
