  • Tech Support Matters

    Funded Dec 17, 2024

As a result of your generosity students have unlimited access to tech supports needed throughout the day. Each student has their own headset which they use to focus on SMART lessons. Students can now use text to speech and other assistive technology without background noise. Student can also work simultaneously on various assignments independently. This has tremendously increased student engagement.

My students are most excited about the increased independence, and accessibility. With headphones a printer and stylus pens they have access to many other medias including music and audiobooks, videos and podcasts, and collaborative group activities. -We have a color classroom printer and do not have to share with an entire floor!

One student, in particular, has developed a passion for using the stylus pen to craft impressive artworks that align closely with the classroom objectives. He draws inspiration from music, which serves as a guiding force throughout his artistic process. I've observed that since he began incorporating headphones and the stylus pen into his routine, his academic performance has significantly improved, and he is now producing higher-quality portfolio samples.

Thank you for being such a vital part of our journey toward excellence!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gardner

  • Closing the Technology Gap #TechAccessMatters

    Funded Sep 11, 2020

Thank You! Thank you so much for enabling us to compete. The windows of the world have been opened and now we can see past the bronx! Students will be able to explore more independently and gain a sense of freedom to see what is out there! We are very appreciative. Thank you for closing this gap and believing that adequate access to technology matters! Look out for photos, we can't wait to share.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gardner

In the classroom, students will use the tablets to interact and learn about what exists outside the Bronx. A large part will be learning digital literacy by accessing technology to perform daily assignments online. With the introduction to online learning due to the pandemic students are in need of there own tablets. Students will learn about math and science through videos and interactive lessons that are not possible without technology. Students will learn about financial literacy through online banking, budgeting, and money management. They will learn how to navigate websites and applications that they will need to know how to use post graduation. Our school struggles to be print-rich because of budget cuts and funding shortages, but with the tablets students will be able to access databases of literature. There is one working desktop in my classroom, and it is a daily struggle to share amongst students. Students cannot effectively access activities with just one desktop computer. This makes it almost impossible to use the computer effectively as students cannot be given a significant amount of time to use the computer. These tablets will allow us to compete with other districts where students have adequate access to technology in the classroom and can access a world outside of the South Bronx. The emphasis on individual learning plans and pacing is a large part of the reason we need these tablets. In order to differentiate in instruction we need tablets to help that meet the needs of each special needs student. They need to be able to access information at their own pace and learn how to navigate digital materials if they are to be successful in their future.
